On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, Mae Bartell Concienne, 101, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and longtime resident of Centerville, went to join her heavenly family and our Lord Jesus Christ.
She was born on June 16, 1911 in Patterson, the daughter of the late William and Agnes LeBlanc Bartell. In her final years she lived with her daughter, Brenda, in Lafayette, then moved to Bethany MHS Healthcare Center for her final 2 ½ years.
Mae was a housewife to her husband and three children during their formative years, and then substituted for 25 years at Centerville High School Cafeteria until retiring at age 71. Students loved her homemade, fresh baked rolls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Concienne, Sr.; one son, Howard Concienne, Jr.; one daughter, Betty Concienne Verret; one brother, Bill Bartell; and two sisters, Aline Stevens and Alma Curtis.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Concienne Miller and her husband Mack; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, January 26, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Fr. Ruben Primor will officiate the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Verret, Justin Verret, Caldon Olmsted, Chace Olmsted, Emile Concienne, and Chris Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Verret, Derek Verret, Mike Johnson, Joe Stevens, and Mack Miller.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. L. Chua, her family physician in Franklin, as well the staff of Bethany MHS Healthcare Center and Dr. Kothapalli for their concern and loving care given to Mae for the past 2 ½ years.
