The good man lay on his hospital bed surrounded by those who loved him most. Amid the muffled sobs and whispered prayers came the soft murmur, "He's gone..."
On the other shore rose the excited cry of those loved ones who had gone before: "He's coming, he's coming…"
C.A. "Gus" Lipari completed his earthly journey, begun July 22, 1939, and entered eternity on July 24, 2012. Meeting him on the other shore were his beloved parents, Mary and Leo Lipari, his brother Peter Lipari and many other relatives and friends. Grieving his loss but celebrating his new life and release from suffering are his wife Mikie Camalo Lipari: his daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Charles Silvan, their children Ella Marie and Patrick Anthony of Windsor, CT; his son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Blagomira Lipari and their daughter Gia Soleil of Syracuse, NY. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister, Leona Armato of Patterson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Suzanne Lipari of Patterson and Luke and Kay Lipari and Lenny and Robin Lipari of New Iberia; as well as many nieces and nephews. His Camalo family loved and respected him for who he was and for the care he showed their mother.
Mr. Lipari graduated from PHS and was the first Mr. PHS and salutatorian of his class. He received a Theology degree from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. For 33 years he served the children of Patterson as teacher and Guidance Counselor and after his retirement continued that service as Case Manager for the District Attorney's Program for Truancy and At-Risk Children in St. Mary Parish.
His interest in civics and a challenge from one of his students led him to run for Patterson City Council in 1978. While on the City Council he served as Mayor Pro Tem and from 1986 to 1996 as Mayor of Patterson. He returned to serve on the City Council from 1998 to 2006.
Our unending gratitude goes to Dr. Cuong Bui, M.D. at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and to the nurses of the Neuro Critical Care unit who cared for him with such skill and gentleness always preserving his dignity and ministering to his family with compassion and wisdom.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Patterson on Thursday, July 26, 2012. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and will conclude with a Rosary at 11:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at noon. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
