Private memorial services were held for Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Champagne Smiley, 70, a native and resident of Franklin, who passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at 1:45 PM at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Kathy was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime teacher and Debate Coach at Hanson Memorial School. In her free time she enjoyed working in her yard and gardening.
Survivors include her three children, Sarah Hutchinson of Colorado Springs, CO, Jason Lee Smiley of Franklin, and Susannah Conn and her husband Aron Pataky of San Diego, CA; her mother, Winnie Ribble Champagne of Franklin; one sister, Christine Francl and her husband Dennis of Covington; one sister-in-law, Linell Champagne of New Iberia; three grandchildren, Ian, Cassie, and Leah.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lee T. Champagne, Sr.; and her brother, Lee "Tommy" Champagne, Jr.
