A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption for John Joseph Haydel, 91, a native of Glencoe and a longtime resident of Franklin, who passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 8:40 PM at the Franklin Health Care Center.
Burial will follow in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Jeanerette. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services.
John was an avid baseball fan whose favorite team was the New York Yankees. He was a graduate of Hanson Memorial School and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in History from SLI (now ULL). Later in life he was employed by the LA State Police as a radio dispatcher when Troop C was located in Franklin.
Survivors include one sister, Blanche H. Boudreaux of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Haydel, Sr. and Virginia Broussard Haydel; seven brothers, Hilton, Oren, Hardy, Rufus, Sitges, Edsel, and Emile Jr.; two sisters, Ada H. Cobb and Virginia H. Senette; one niece, Carolyn Sue C. Caillouet; and one nephew, Dr. John E. Cobb.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday at the Church of the Assumption from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, with the rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hanson Memorial High School, 903 Anderson St., Franklin, LA 70538.
