Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista during an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Willie Joseph Burgess, a native of Verdunville, former longtime resident of Bayou Vista, and a resident of Houston, TX for the past 2 years. Following the Mass, Mr. Burgess will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Ibert's Memorial Park Cemetery in Patterson. Father William Rogalla will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. Military Honors will be provided by the Keesler Air Force Base Honor Guard and the St. Mary Veteran's Funeral Squad.

Mr. Burgess honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from April 6, 1955 and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant on August 31, 1975, following two tours during the Vietnam War and over 20 years of service.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory include three children, Jacqueline Burgess Broussard Boutte and her husband Herbert, William "Bill" Burgess Jr., and Joey Burgess and his wife Joanna; three sisters, Bernadette Burgess, Paulette Burgess, and Zelda Valteau; six grandchildren, Jason Burgess and his wife Cheree, Travis Broussard and his wife Cindy, Jered Broussard, Brandon Burgess, Patrick Garza, and Joey Burgess Jr.; ten great grandchildren, Dylan, Jason Michael, Drake, Kyleigh, Travis Jr., Marcos, Kristen, Madison, Brooklyn, and Jaycee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Teresa "Terry" Holguin Burgess; three brothers, Herman Burgess, Daniel Burgess Jr., and Juanover Burgess; and two sisters, Brenda Burgess and Elizabeth Ann Burgess Copeland.
