Oduel J. "O. J." Fruge, a 52 year resident of Bayou Vista, passed away at the age of 87 on Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home. O. J. was born in Basile, LA on July 19, 1930, one of three sons born to the late Zephrien Fruge and the late Ena Bellon Fruge.

On September 26, 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1949. A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend, O. J. was a hardworking man, providing for his family by making a career working in the oil field. He loved spending time outdoors, growing his vegetable garden, and cooking Sunday meals for his family. He was an avid Saints and LSU football fan, and enjoyed telling stories, cracking jokes, and playing cards, especially Bourré. He cherished his Cajun heritage and spoke in French anytime the occasion allowed. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Angie Savoie Fruge; four children, Carlon Fruge and his wife Patricia, Glenda Fruge, Wade Fruge and his companion Tina Businelle, and Ross Fruge Sr. and his companion Cammy Crochet; eight grandchildren, Jeanette Hartzell, James Fruge, Amanda Fruge McCarrick, Alma "Noonie" Turner, Brent Theriot, Cypress Fruge, Cole Fruge, and Ross Fruge Jr.; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Callance "Joe" Fruge; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harrison "Big" Fruge; one granddaughter, Robin Fruge Hedden; and one great grandson, Brennen Theriot.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 31, at 3:30 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary in Patterson, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Ibert's Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Carlon Fruge, Wade Fruge, Ross Fruge Sr., Ross Fruge Jr., James "Jim" Turner, Blake Turner, Cypress Fruge, and Brent Theriot. Pastor Den Hussey of Crossing Place Church in Bayou Vista will conduct the services.
