Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson for Murray Dean Trahan, 68, who died Wednesday, November 5th, at home in his sleep surrounded by his family. He had been battling a brain tumor for the last 10 months. He will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Murray was born in Patterson and was a lifelong resident. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Patterson High School and in June 1965, he graduated from Louisiana Technical College-Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City, Louisiana in Diesel Mechanics. Murray was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War who served with distinction and was honorably discharged from the United States Army after his tour of duty. He was also a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Murray's work took him all over the world with McDermott International, most notably Brazil, Egypt, and Nigeria. He retired from McDermott International and continued to work in several consulting capacities specializing in heavy equipment and project management roles. For the last 13 years of his career, he spent working in Nigeria. Though Murray enjoyed seeing the world and traveling for his work, his passions were motorcycles and cars. Murray never met an engine he could not overhaul or a motorcycle he did not want to race. The only thing he loved more than his passions was his family.

Murray was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Melba Trahan; and his three brothers Carol, Calvin, and Marion Trahan. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Socorro Trahan; his two children, Dion and Bianca Trahan; his daughter-in-law, Erika Sonnier Trahan; and his three nephews, Troy, Irvin, and Carol Trahan.

The Trahan family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Ocshner Baptist medical and hospital staff for their tireless dedication in treating Murray, especially Dr. Brian Boulmay.

The family requests that visitation hours be observed from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 14th, 2014, at Ibert's Mortuary in Patterson, and again on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Murray's name for Masses.
