Lionel Peter Bonin Sr., a Jeanerette native and resident of Baldwin for the past 47 years, passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

Lionel was an outdoorsman through and through and was a hardworking man who didn't mind getting his hands dirty. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, going to the camp, and working in his garden. He was also quite the pool player and could often be found enjoying a good cigar. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Derouen Bonin; four children, Johnny Bonin, Linda Bonin, Gwen Bonin, and Lionel Bonin Jr.; one sister, Blanche Ann Segura; seven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lee Ann Bonin; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

In keeping with Lionel's wishes, he will be cremated with private services held by the family at a later date.
