A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson for Linda Orgeron Matthiews, 63, a native of New Orleans and long time resident of Patterson, who went to her heavenly home Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014, at her residence. She will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Father Herb Bennerfield will officiate the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Matthiews, Gene Fontenot, Jonathan Schaub, Kenny Orgeron, Alex Orgeron, Jr., Cameron Fontenot, and Seth Fontenot.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, September 19, 2014, at Ibert's Mortuary in Patterson from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 8:00 AM and continue until time of service.

Linda was a woman of strong faith and integrity, having shown that strength during her 18 year battle with cancer. Even throughout her illness, Linda was always concerned for the care and wellbeing of others. One of her favorite pastimes was tending to her flowers. But her passion in life was her family whom she loved dearly.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Allen Matthiews; three children, Troy Matthiews and his wife Tracey, Tonya Matthiews Fontenot and her husband Gene, and Angela Matthiews Schaub and her husband Jonathan; six grandchildren, Monica St. Romain and her husband Evan, Veronica Matthiews, Cameron Fontenot, Seth Fontenot, Carson Schaub and Carley Schaub; two great grandchildren, Aubrey Fontenot and Cooper St. Romain; five brothers, Alex Orgeron Jr., Harold Orgeron, Howard Orgeron, Kenny Orgeron, and Johnny Orgeron; one sister, Cheryl Orgeron Bass; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Joseph Orgeron Sr. and Mable Comeaux Orgeron.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Southern Care Hospice and Dr. Francis Metz III for the compassionate care given to Linda, as well as to Christina Wolfe, her nurse, who was such a blessing to Linda and her family.
