Mrs. Cowart was a native of Luling and a resident of Franklin for 85 years. She had a gentle soul and met everyone with kindness. Her life could be summed up in two words, faith and family. She was truly a woman of deep faith, and it was her faith that carried her through the loss of four of her six children. Of equal importance was her family, whom she loved unconditionally. Nothing made her happier than having her family around. On Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the age of 91, Mrs. Cowart was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her son, Billy Wayne Cowart; her daughter, Diane Marie Cowart Landry; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Cowart; one sister-in-law, Ovena Boudreaux; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James David Cowart Sr.; four sons, Leston Cowart, Ricky Cowart, James "Boy-Boy" Cowart, Jr., and Calvin "Peanut" Cowart Sr.; parents, Dudley and Angele Knoblock Boudreaux; eight siblings, Normand, Hubert, Dorothy "Mim", Pete, Hattie, Nettie, Irby, and Randolph "Coke"; and one granddaughter, Angela Boykin.
