Ibert's Mortuary
Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin was established in or about 1860 by Valentine Ibert, the great great grandfather of the present owner, Gregory Ibert. Valentine operated the firm until his death in 1910, when his son, Charles Ibert, succeeded him. Along with his son, Herbert Ibert, Charles operated the mortuary until his death in 1932. In 1951, two sons of Herbert, H. Chris Ibert and Charles S. Ibert, joined the firm. After the death of his brother, Charles, and then his father, Herbert, Chris took over the family firm. He moved the mortuary from the Ibert family home/mortuary to the existing mortuary, which was constructed in 1969. In 1986 he built a branch in Patterson in order to provide service to the entire parish of St. Mary. Chris operated the mortuary until his retirement in 1988, when his son, Greg Ibert, succeeded him. Five generations of the Ibert family have served the area with over 140 years of caring, dignified service.
